LIFE
2003 - Present
Hey! I’m Jacob and welcome to my portfolio "Red Trigger"!
I’m currently working on my Masters of Design Innovation at Victoria University of Wellington investigating immersion in video games and its effects on players.
From a young age I have been surrounded by technology and video games, some of my oldest memories are playing games like Samba de Amigo (with those weird maraca controllers) and Time Crysis on Dreamcast and consequently, games have become a massive part of my life. I’m fascinated by both technology new and old as well as the games industry and any new developments within the space.
My Dad had originally introduced me to programming with the absolute classic Scratch and once I got to high school, building websites (such as this one) and programming started to become second nature.
Going to Massey has allowed me to further develop these web skills but also allowed me to shift my focus to more program-based development. Starting with creating full little apps within Python and messing around with APIs such as the platform formerly known as Twitter’s API to create a bot that needed likes to stay alive.
Now my main programming focus is on game design and development, with “Bobbi Bones” being the largest project I’ve ever been a part of, holding an important role within the team as both the technical programmer and in charge of our version control. But that doesn’t mean I don’t find time to work on fun side projects like my Discord bot “Trigger Bot”.
Thanks for checking out my portfolio and make sure to have a look at some of the projects I’ve worked on!
